Simply using long white rice cakes does not mean you can make the right tteokbokki. In Korea, rice cakes are sold exclusively for making tteokbokki. It doesn't dissolve well in water and has elasticity. If you can find it on Amazon, you'd better buy it. And the rice cake should be soaked in cold water to maintain some stickiness.
Took it out of the fridge to put it in water and noticed a strong smell of acetone. On the package it says that they are good for another half a year. I honestly think it's from preservatives since I found a small pack of it in the bag so it probably leaked all over the package. 😭. r/KoreanFood.
